Estimate how much vinyl roll length a set of designs needs, including spacing. Useful before you promise a cut job or buy another roll.

How it works / formula

Calculation steps

  1. Count how many designs fit across the roll, then how many rows you need for the quantity.
  2. Length used = rows × design height + gaps.
  3. Cost = (feet used ÷ roll feet) × roll price.

Worked example

Example (illustrative)

  • 4×4 designs on 12 in roll, 50 pcs, 0.25 in gap → multiple across, length and $/design update live in the result panel.

Assumptions & limitations

This calculator provides an estimate for planning and quoting. Actual results vary with supplier pricing, ink coverage, waste, labour rates, equipment and marketplace fee changes. Always verify critical numbers before production. See the disclaimer.

Cost control

Issue Fix
Design wider than roll Rotate art or buy wider roll
High weed time Raise setup fee — material is not the only cost
Short leftovers Batch similar jobs on one roll

Frequently asked questions

Does this include transfer tape?

No — add tape as a separate consumable if you use it.

Does this include weeding waste?

Spacing helps, but heavy weeding scrap still needs a waste buffer in your cost.

Can I nest rotated shapes?

This tool uses a practical grid estimate. Complex nesting may save more material in dedicated software.

How do I price the job after length?

Convert area to cost with Square Inches to Square Feet or your $/ft rate, then add labour in Print Pricing.
