Inkjet and laser transfer paper is often the quiet margin killer on small runs. Enter sheet cost, sheet size, design size, quantity and waste to see how many sheets you need and what each design costs in paper alone.

Pair this with ink and labour elsewhere — paper is only one line of the quote.

How it works / formula

Calculation steps

  1. Designs per sheet ≈ floor(sheet_w / design_w) × floor(sheet_h / design_h) (axis-aligned pack).
  2. Sheets needed = ceil(quantity × (1 + waste%) ÷ designs per sheet).
  3. Paper cost = sheets × cost per sheet.
  4. Cost per design ≈ paper cost ÷ quantity.

Worked example

Example (illustrative)

  • Letter sheet, 4×4 designs → often 4 per sheet. 24 pcs + 10% waste → 7 sheets × $0.85.

Assumptions & limitations

This calculator provides an estimate for planning and quoting. Actual results vary with supplier pricing, ink coverage, waste, labour rates, equipment and marketplace fee changes. Always verify critical numbers before production. See the disclaimer.

Tips

Tip Why
Nest same sizes Higher designs/sheet
Track misprints Set waste % from reality
Include ink separately Paper ≠ full transfer cost

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for DTF film?

For roll film use Vinyl Roll or DTF Cost tools. This is for cut sheets.

Does this work for DTF film rolls?

Should I rotate designs?

If rotation is allowed in production, try both orientations mentally — the tool uses axis-aligned packing as a conservative estimate.

What waste % should I start with?

10% is a common planning buffer. Raise it if you see frequent misfeeds or alignment scrap.
