Customers ask “how big should the design be?” before they ask about DPI. This guide gives starting widths by adult unisex size and placement, plus a 300 DPI pixel width so you can build the canvas correctly.

Always verify against the brand’s size chart and leave clearance from seams.

How it works / formula

We look up a practical starting width for the size + placement combination, then convert width × 300 DPI to a canvas pixel width.

Heights should follow art aspect ratio — use the Aspect Ratio Calculator if you need matching height.

Worked example

Example (illustrative)

  • Adult M full front ≈ 12 in wide → 3600 px at 300 DPI.
  • Left chest on M ≈ 4 in → 1200 px wide.
