Embroidery quotes fail when stitch count is guessed. Enter design width and height plus a density (stitches per square inch) to estimate stitch count, then apply your price per 1,000 stitches and digitizing/setup fee.

Use lower density for light fills and higher for dense logos — digitizing software always wins for finals.

How it works / formula

Calculation steps

  1. Area = width × height.
  2. Stitches ≈ area × density.
  3. Stitch cost = (stitches ÷ 1000) × rate.
  4. Quote = stitch cost + setup.

Worked example

Example (illustrative)

  • 4 × 3 in at 1,500 /in² → 18,000 stitches.
  • At $1.25 /1k → $22.50 + $35 setup = $57.50 starting quote.

Assumptions & limitations

This calculator provides an estimate for planning and quoting. Actual results vary with supplier pricing, ink coverage, waste, labour rates, equipment and marketplace fee changes. Always verify critical numbers before production. See the disclaimer.

Density starting points

Style Density feel
Light / open 800–1,200 /in²
Standard logo fill 1,200–1,800 /in²
Heavy fill 1,800–2,500+ /in²

Frequently asked questions

Is this as accurate as digitizing software?

No — it is a quoting estimate. Final stitch counts come from the digitized file.

Are Embroidery Stitch Estimate Calculator results exact for production?

Treat them as planning estimates. Calibrate against your equipment, invoices and waste logs before you lock customer quotes.

Do my inputs leave my browser?

No. PressMath calculators run client-side. Only the contact form sends data you intentionally submit.

What should I do after I get a number?

Open a related calculator or guide on this page, sanity-check units, then verify on a sample before a full run.
